For the first time since 1975, a Norwegian film has been selected for the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Solomamma is directed by Janicke Askevold, produced by Bacon, and will be released in collaboration with the international sales agent Playtime.

We are proud to finally announce a premiere date for our upcoming feature Solomamma: the film will have its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, which takes place in Switzerland between August 6 and 16. The film will participate in the Concorso Internazionale section. It is the first time a Norwegian film has been selected for the festival since Wives (Hustruer) in 1975.
Solomamma is directed by Janicke Askevold and stars Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure) and Herbert Nordrum (The Worst Person in the World). It has been featured in Works-in-Progress (WIP) programs at festivals including Les Arcs and the Göteborg Film Festival. The story follows single mother Edith, who suddenly learns the identity of her anonymous sperm donor and decides to meet him under the pretense of an interview for her job as a journalist. The two begin to develop a genuine connection, which leads to more lies and a fragile balance in Edith’s life.
"Since Janicke came to us with this project about four years ago, we’ve been on an exciting and challenging journey that helped establish Bacon Pictures. We’ve learned a lot along the way and made a film we’re proud of—and now it’s crowned by being selected for the competition program at a very strong festival,” says Magne Lyngner, CEO and EP at Bacon Pictures.
After Locarno, the film is set to premiere in Norwegian cinemas at the beginning of 2026. It is produced by Bacon, distributed by Scanbox, and is the first film in a larger slate deal between the two. International sales are handled by the French company Playtime, which has previously worked with both Cannes and Oscar winners.
